Personally, I'm sck of Iowa. But I can't win. Media obsession with the quaint caucuses mean they'll continue to have overpowering impact on primary choices. So, recognizing the reality, I note new Iowa numbers from the Des Moines Register. On the Republican side, they say Romney leads, newcomer Thompson is in second Mike Huckabee and Rudy Giuliani are battling for third.
Ah, but the Huckabee camp finds a metric more to their liking;. Among committed Republican voters -- those among registered Republicans who've made up their mind -- The Huckster is Numero Uno. Understand that 25 percent say they are committed and that Huckabee has 19 percent of a well-fractured audience, which means only abut 5 percent of all voters. We'll ignore for today the question of whether you can accurately measure potential caucus goers in the first place. But, it's all about accentuating the positive and the Huckabee "surge" continues.
Oh, forgot. Hillary leads the Democrats.
