Physicians and staff at Arkansas Children's Hospital
assembled outside the hospital at 12:30 p.m. today to show their support for an expanded State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). President Bush has vowed to veto any expansion in the program. The U.S. House and Senate have voted earlier today to add an additional $35 bmillion to SCHIP funding, equivalent to what the nation is spending every three hours in Iraq. In the House, for the record, Arkansas's U.S. Reps. Berry, Ross and Snyder voted in favor of the SCHIP bill; Rep. Boozman, the lone Republican and a physician, did not vote. The senators favored the expansion.
