Seventeen out of 22 Springdale schools failed in the spring to meet federal testing standards on state Benchmark or End-of-Course exams, district documents show.
Six Springdale schools fell below the bar last year.
A new rule that requires students who don’t read or write English fluently to take the exams caused the increase in struggling schools, said leaders of the state’s third-largest school district.
The scores are forcing Springdale administrators to rethink the way they teach English-Language Learners, said Don Love, assistant superintendent for curriculum and secondary instruction.
