Keeping the coal fires burning

It's too long for me to upload, but I've received a Texas Public Utility Commission filing in which a staff economist says that state shouldn't issue a certificate of need for the 600-megawatt coal-fired generating plant SWEPCO wants to build hard by a pristine wilderness area in Southwest Arkansas. Texas accounts for more of the load demand for the plant than Arkansas does. It's not needed, the economist said, because much of the power would go to wholesale customers the utility isn't obligated to serve and would have the adverse effect of harming electric competition in Texas.

Isn't it time for Arkansas to shoot this polluting turkey?
