The announcement that Jeff Long, now at Pitt, will be the new athletic director at UAF was at 2 p.m. today. (The link is to UA press release.) Pittsburgh newspaper notes that Pitt did not make Long a substantial counter-offer after he got the bid from Arkansas. Article also notes that Long introduced a "controversial" plan to tie football and basketball seats to athletic donations. Retiring Athletic Director Frank Broyles took care of that transition here long ago.
Here's some background on Long on the Pitt website.
UPDATE: He's going to make $450,000, roughtly twice what the UAF chancellor makes. But that's just a base. There are bonuses for academic and athletic achievement. KHOG has some video.
