Got an Arkansas State press release today on mascot activities. The committee to choose a replacement for Indians has been expanded, appointments have been made to come up with a dignified retirement ceremony, etc. I was interested to find out that ASU has a website where new mascot names have been flowing in. Check it out.
I'm sticking with Gorillas, because it's a former name of ASU teams and because a small band of tawny gorillas still inhabit the little-known Bogue Chitto wetland in the remote southwest corner of Craighead County. An indigenous purple-leaf cane that is a favorite gorilla foodstuff flourishes there. Bruce Burrow wants to drain the spot for a shopping center, if he can get a TIF district formed, so we'll need something to remember the gorillas by.
