Republican counsel

The Arkansas Republican Party announces that Chris Stewart will be the party's general counsel. He led the marriage amendment campaign and is a graduate of Jerry Falwell's college and Pat Robertson's law school. Release on the jump. Business as usual, sounds like.

Little Rock -- Chairman Dennis Milligan has appointed Mr. Chris Stewart, of Little Rock, as General Counsel to the Republican Party of Arkansas.

Stewart is in private law practice and is a registered lobbyist and partner in the lobbying firm Brent Stevenson Associates.  His law practice focuses primarily on business litigation, debt collection and insurance defense litigation.

In 2006, Stewart served as Political Director to the Asa For Governor campaign. In 2004, Stewart served as the Executive Director of the Arkansas Marriage Amendment Committee. The Arkansas Marriage Amendment Committee organized and managed the campaign for Amendment 3 that defined marriage between one man and one woman.  The campaign gathered a record 201,000 signatures to place the amendment on the ballot.  The amendment passed with 74 percent of the vote. Prior to joining the Arkansas Marriage Amendment Committee, Stewart practiced insurance defense litigation.

A native of Brinkley, Arkansas, Stewart earned his Bachelor of Science in Government from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 2000.  He received his Juris Doctor from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 2003.

Stewart is married to the former Julie Beale of Buffalo, New York, who is a teacher at Baker Elementary in Little Rock.
