Brummett analyzes Arkansas's presidential candidates and finds some similarities between Mike Huckabee and Hillary Clinton. Mainly in this:
It's not altogether coincidental that the best and most electable Democrat of the modern era, Bill Clinton, came from Arkansas. Our state's politics - nominally Democratic while economically populist, culturally conservative and uncommonly personal considering our small area and sparse population - lends itself to the nurturing of talented politicians able to perform gymnastic philosophical straddles.
UPDATE: David Broder figures -- maybe rightly for once -- that Huck's robust populism is about reinventing himself for New Hampshire. Then -- me here, not Broder -- he'll don the preacher's robes and religious right finery when he moves on to South Carolina.
