This may be old news to regular sports page readers, which I'm not, but a NY Times article says Little Rock is on the list for a new professional football league, the All American Football League, due to begin play in spring 2008. The gimmick is using former college players from the area and the use of colors resembling the local college team. And the players must be college graduates. Some teams will have relationships with NCAA schools. If not, could they call the Little Rock entry the Arkansas Durocs and get past the UA in their red jerseys?
The league's website is a hoot -- college fight songs in the background. There's a slot for an Arkansas team, but it merely says "coming soon." Board members of the organization include Doug Dickey, former athletic director at Tennessee; former ACC commissioner Gene Corrigan, and former university leaders.
