Beebe appoints

Gov. Mike Beebe's appointments today included a couple of replacements on the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission. Whether that bodes well or ill for Appeals Court Judge Wendell Griffen, I can't say.

Also noted: Richard Mays Jr. was appointed to the Parole Board, replacing Bill Walker, who had moved up to head the state's Workforce agency (in between hosting nationally televised Super Sweet 16 festivities). Those Parole Board jobs pay between $60,000 and $70,000, I think. Mays' father, Richard, the Little Rock lawyer, was an early and significant fund-raiser for the Beebe campaign, or so I was told by Bill Walker. And, hey, if you can't believe Bill ....

Mays, you might say, is politically ambidextrous. A Bill Clinton supporter, he also contributed to Mike Huckabee campaign efforts and was rewarded before Huckabee left office with a paid slot on the state Banking Board and then later to the Claims Commission.
