Good news from UALR this morning.
Thanks to private money, the university is undertaking a project to restore Coleman Creek where it crosses Asher Avenue to its natural state. Old buildings will be removed and grass and trees will prevail over asphalt and concrete pilings.
The project also will include a commemoration of the spot as a point along one of the routes of forced Indian removal through Arkansas, known as the Trail of Tears. That’s a subject dear to UALR, repository of a premier collection of Native American history.
This is the first phase of a 47-acre project to create a greenway along Coleman Creek through the campus, just one of the many outward signs of UALR’s intent to vigorously integrate with and improve not only the campus but surrounding neighborhood.
