The Little Rock School Board is likely to choose an interim superintendent tonight. At least one other candidate, in addition to two mentioned in the Democrat-Gazette this morning, has submitted an application to Dr. Katherine Mitchell, the Board president, for the interim superintendent's job.
The motion is likely to propose a one-year contract, perhaps with an option of becoming superintendent, and an opportunity to become familiar with district operations before becoming superintendent on Aug. 25, Supt. Roy Brooks' departure date.
Who is the applicant? I'm not sure. But it would appear to be district administrator Linda Watson.
I think it is a mistake for a Board majority to keep the applicant secret until the last minute. Brooks' secret dealings were one of his major shortcomings. The new majority should set a higher standard.
