Want some? Republican candidates serve up slabs
of exactly the stuff a conservative group in Iowa wants to hear. Mike Huckabee
didn't demonstrate the slightest bit of moderation. He vowed he'd absolutely veto any tax increase or any increase in spending. (Romney thoughtfully gave himself a little wiggle room on account of the possibility of a war or some minor concern like that.) No mention is made of how Huckabee's vow for the future squares with his past record as a tax-raising, increased spending governor in Arkansas. Nor how his 30 percent sales tax, the Fair Tax, will work if it doesn't raise taxes on a lot of people to make up for the enormous tax cuts it will give to the wealthy. No matter. The point was pushing hot buttons. And there were plenty -- on gay marriage, stem cell research, immigration.
