That judgeship

Still no word from the White House on a replacement for the late federal Judge George Howard, though Rep. John Boozman has sent six names up -- three white and three black. Interesting. The strongest Republican credentials are found among the white candidates -- Mike Huckabee's personal lawyer Kevin Crass and the former federal prosecutor and judicial nominee Chuck Banks.

It's becoming clear that Arkansas's senators aren't prepared to throw up a roadblock to any of the candidates, but they continue to insist that they'd prefer a black nominee. Sen. Mark Pryor noted to reporters today that Arkansas is the only Southern state without a black federal district judge. Appeals Court Judge Brian Miller is from Helena and many believe he enjoys particular support among the candidates from Sen. Blanche Lincoln, who grew up in Helena.
