Stephens Media advances the Saturday meeting at which the Arkansas Republican Party is expected to elect Dennis Milligan of Bryant as the new party chairman to succeed Sen. Gilbert Baker.
I keep missing connections this week with Jim Holt, de facto leader of the Shiite wing of the party, who's been rumored to be considering a run for the chairmanship. So I don't know if his name will be nominated from the floor or not. Quotes like this from Milligan are sure-fire ways to stir the Holt crowd, however.
"We got notice from the voters in the last election cycle that they were unhappy with the direction the party was going," he said, adding that the party must have a broader focus, not just on social issues.
"We need to refocus the party, get back to our roots on fiscal issues, less taxes and smaller government," he said.
