It turns out that the new mascot study committee appointed at Arkansas State University was preparatory for a decision to at last jettison the Indians nickname. Now that even Illinois has decided to comply with the NCAA rule against Native American team names, ASU had only money and a tattered reputation to lose as a die-hard holdout.
