A second installment today in John Brummett's visit to Marion for explanations on Arkansas's failure to land a Toyota assembly plant. Yes, that part of the state is less educated than the balance of the state. But Marion backers continue to insist politicking did Arkansas in. After all, Arkansas would have relied on Memphis for much of its workforce anyway.
I'm not buying that politics overrides education of work force and the usual roster of cost and supply issues that go into industrial decisions. Haley Barbour won't be building those cars. And if Arkansas thinks it is sound economic policy to give away treasure to create jobs for people in Tennessee, I am even less inclined to buy.
