A Mexican consulate opens Wednesday in Little Rock with great ceremony, including expected wackjob protests, Stephens Media notes. This is a great thing. A consulate will make this a more welcoming place for immigrants. The city has been enriched by the flow of workers from Mexico. Without them, I wonder if Little Rock would have enjoyed any growth at all in recent years.

(There, that ought to stir a few people up bright and early.)

Gov. Mike Beebe praises the economic benefits of a consulate, but, darn it, he’s got a conflict that will prevent him from actually appearing at the event and participating in the photo ops. That fellow who’s lt. gov. will do the honors.
