House Speaker Benny Petrus’ ethics bill came out of committee yesterday. House passage seems likely. Passage in the Senate? Based on that chamber’s track record so far, you’d have to say no. The senators won’t even impose a one-year waiting period for legislators to become lobbyists. Which likely means that some of them are already maneuvering, if not dickering. Which certainly means the various ethical ideas in Petrus’ bill hold no allure for them. Prove me wrong, senators.
