Rep. David Johnson of Little Rock has filed legislation., HB 2658, to authorize city manager cities to have voter referendums on giving the mayor traditional executive powers.

UPDATE — Overnight comment suggests backers of the petition drive to change city government believe this is an attempt by the powers-that-be to stifle their effort.. I haven’t a clue at this moment. It does make some changes in time allowed for petition drives. It doesn’t change existing law as to election of city directors. The petitioners want to go to ward-only elections.
