Attorney General Dustin McDaniel will have the press in tomorrow to speak warmly of the bill to make failure to use a seat belt a primary offense. That alone would get you a ticket.
Good for him.
It's not so hard to support such an idea these days. Most people wear seat belts. But, as with smoking and motorcycle helmets, being for seat belts means engaging a noisy minority of boneheads. Some folks angrily demand the right to die more readily. And, in Arkansas, they have support from the state's largest newspaper. Or rather its executive editor. He believes reference to seat belt use in traffic accident reports amounts to an editorial comment on the value of seat belts. We note that his newspaper DID note the importance of cell phone use in a bad accident in LR lately. Maybe his libertarianism extends only to those habits he supports.
