Gov. Beebe had good tidings, if unspecific ones, for everybody at a speech before county judges yesterday. A little highway money, a little capital money for cities and counties -- both from the surplus. After schools, naturally.
Elsewhere, in the Democrat-Gazette, Cliff Hoofman outlines the shape of the highway plan Beebe would support. It includes $100 million from surplus, a five-cent diesel tax increase (no toll roads, to please truckers) and perhaps a run at another bond issue.
Brummett's blog suggests the truckers are driving the sudden emergence of a highway plan. It wouldn't be the average motorist, that's for sure. It'd be either the truckers or the contractors.
