Governor Mike Beebe today named David Fletcher of Monette as director of the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs.
“David Fletcher comes to this administration highly recommended by numerous veterans’ groups in Arkansas and I agree with their high accolades for David’s abilities and service,” Beebe said.
Fletcher, 65, is a 29-year veteran of the United States Air Force, having retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After his military retirement, Fletcher spent eight years as Mayor of Monette.
During his Air Force service, Fletcher was the ranking non-commissioned officer for many national and international programs relating to the military postal system. At the Pentagon, he headed a $44-million postal operation for the Air Force. While stationed in the United Kingdom, Fletcher oversaw the postal system that serviced U.S. military personnel throughout Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
Fletcher has spent 14 years as the Craighead County Veterans Service Officer and is a member of the American Legion, the Air Force Association and the Disabled American Veterans.
Born and raised in Monette, Fletcher was born on December 7, 1941, the day of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
