KFSM reports quarterbackin' man Mitch Mustain is gone from the University of Arkansas, though he has not been granted his release at this moment. This story doesn't say where. Smart money says Tulsa, to follow his high school coach Gus Malzahn, who's gunning offense was spurned by UA. There's rumbling that Hog coach Houston Dale Nutt might be holding back on releasing Mustain.
Others are confirming that Nutt has announced Mustain's departure and saying Mustain will enroll at Tulsa this semester, paying his own way if need be. Let him go, Houston. Didn't they let you go?
UPDATE: Nutt reportedly has a news conference set to announce that Mustain will be released.
This might help Nutt, who's been trying to get out in front of the breaking news today. Sound crazy? Loyalists might unite behind the team and heap abuse on a big-headed quarterback and his pushy mother.
But the Mustain family apparently won't go quietly. His grandma is reportedly throwing down on Nutt on the radio as I write, saying the coach wouldn't even talk to Mustain on the sidelines at the end of the season and never accepted Mitch's apology for criticism of Nutt in a book about Mustain's state championship season at Springdale. She's also dredging up a vicious e-mail sent to Mustain during the season that the Mustain camp always believed came from a friend of the coach.
