The legislative world has changed thanks to term limits and new rule-making within the bodies. Time was, if a legislator had announced a slate of leadership positions in the House, I’d have said, so what? The usual dinosaurs controlled the key committees, the leadership rotated on mostly a seniority basis, with little meaning. But now, with only six years in the House and eight in the Senate to maneuver, more or less, I think the roster of those who win leadership positions perhaps some meaning.
That’s a long run-up to a link to House Majority Leader Steve Harrelson’s blog on these positions.
We already knew the previous governor viewed his role as nearly White Houseian in prestige, perks and position. I hope this doesn’t mean the Arkansas legislature is beginning to view ITself in similarly grandiose terms.
