The Arkansas Supreme Court
today stayed the probable cause hearing set Jan. 19 for Judge Wendell Griffen
before the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission. Griffen made arguments before the court yesterday that the hearing should open. The Commission wants it closed. The Commission is considering whether to punish Griffen for a series of public comments on a variety of issues, ranging from racial injustice to the Bush administration's mishandling of the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina. The court made no additional comment in the brief order staying the hearing.
