Snyder named to key chairmanship

As President George W. Bush "surges" U.S. troop strength in Iraq, it's not insignificant to note that U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder today was named chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel.

That subcommittee reviews policies on troop strength and retention, as well as health care and education benefits.

Snyder also will be a member of the House Armed Services subcommittee charged with Oversight and Investigations -- which likely will see a lot of activity as well. (This subcommittee was dissolved when the Republican majority took control of the House in 1995.)
