Gov. Mike Beebe is sticking to his guns on turnback funds. In a luncheon speech to the Arkansas Municipal League, he reiterated his proposal to give $4 million each to cities and counties, despite opposition expressed yesterday by Senate President Pro-Tem Jack Critcher and House Speaker Benny Petrus, who said the local governments deserve more.
Beebe said he would love to give them more money, too, but he has to balance a budget. Plus, his proposal is more than they have received in a long time. "Let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good," Beebe said.
