There are many more open government issues remaining for Gov. Mike Beebe, but he's off on the right foot. He told the Political Animals Club this morning that he intended to drop the appeal of a circuit court ruling that Gov. Mike Huckabee had to release a report on former Parole Board member Larry Zeno, who resigned after an investigation into his activities. We've reported previously that Zeno had been investigated for the content of some files found on his computer and that he also had been investigated by the State Police for some suspicious conversations with an inmate seeking parole that turned on whether the inmate had a connection who could supply him with a diamond. No charges were filed in either investigation.
We filed a number of FOI requests for this report with the Huckabee administration, which not only refused them but refused to keep them on file pending the outcome of the court case. We renewed that request with the Beebe administration last week. We trust the documents will be forthcoming to us on the same basis they'll be supplied to others, even though the Democrat-Gazette won the court case on the issue.
