In an interview with Roby Brock's Talk Business, House Speaker Benny Petrus sounds opposed to removal of the tax on groceries. He'd prefer to target the income tax. That could mean many things. If he means an earned income credit targeting poor people, he might be onto something. But the following quote hints that he wants to help the other -- top -- end of the income spectrum and let the poor folks wait to be trickled on. We'll just have to wait and see:
I think we would accomplish the same thing that he’s [Beebe’s] trying to accomplish by looking at some income tax brackets, to work on that. I think that would actually spur some more growth and more economic opportunity than just taking the grocery tax off.
