Rogers teachers are split on a merit pay project and no wonder. Apply for the money now, find out later how it's structured, if there's a rational system to the reward mechanism, if there's even a meaningful way to judge relative student outcomes. The school board will go ahead anyway. It's the flavor of the day and in high favor with people who count.
And not to worry that the idea is ineffective. The Walton School of Merit Pay, Charter Schools, School Vouchers and Union Busting at Walton University in Fayetteville stands ready to provide a report that these program work splendidly, particularly if they are Walton-financed projects in Little Rock. The story in the Morning News articles mention that the merit pay advocates at Fayetteville will release in January a report on the LR merit pay experiment. Whatever happened to the idea of having an objective party evaluate that program?
