All the school controversy isn't confined to the Little Rock School District. A Chenal Valley resident (that's in the Pulaski County Special School District, but still in the Little Rock city limits), sends the following note. Anyone else with insight?
I am writing to inform your reporting staff that a "community meeting" is being held on December 18th at 6:00 at Robinson Middle School regarding PCSSD's plans to build a new elementary school in Chenal Valley. This is a VERY controversial subject, and I think would be worth covering in the Times.
Realize that this is not the LRSD's new school proposed for Rahling Road, but an elementary school that is proposed to be built on land on Denny Road that was donated by Deltic Timber, developer of Chenal Valley. In spite of public outcry from Chenal residents for a new middle school, PCSSD is forging on with plans for a new elementary school that will result in 3 elmentary schools in a relatively small area, only one of which is full, and that relies on "area growth" for future enrollment. However, it is pretty well known that in Chenal, no one is going to send their kids to a public school, new or not, unless there is a new middle school in the plans as well. It is much easier to go to a private k-8 instead of face the "middle school issue" that comes with public education in our area.
