An announcement is scheduled today for creation of a new wildlife management area in Calhoun County, 16,000 acres known as the Moro Big Pine project.

A personal note. The stretch between Hampton and El Dorado, where this land lies, is  special to me, though the woods strike some as monotonous. I’ve driven that road dozens of times to visit my family in South Louisiana and, when my parents were alive, they took it many times in this direction. One of my dad’s great pleasures was cruising along the arrow-straight strip of asphalt tunneling through those piney woods. I think of him every time I drive it.
