Wally Hall today suggested that if Mike Beebe were to become governor, he might push for his undergrad alma mater, ASU, to play UA in football. Sounds like Wally believes, as we do, that this would be a good thing and isn't just trying to make trouble for UA law grad Beebe with the Broylesites who hate this idea.
As luck would have it, Roby Brock asked the candidate, semi-seriously, about this in a recent interview. He graciously provides the transcript:
Roby: You are an ASU graduate. You're a big Indians fan. You're also a big Razorback fan - you can’t run for governor and not be that. A governor can have a lot of influence making those two schools play each other. Got any interest in that?
Mike Beebe: Well I would love to see them play, but I don‘t think it’s the state‘s responsibility or the governor‘s responsibility or the government's responsibility to force that. I think that is between the two schools. I think those are decisions that the universities themselves will have to make on their own. And in their own way. I would love to see it, I think it would be a lot of fun, but I don’t think the government's got any role in that.
Roby: If it ever happened you would have to sit on one side of the stadium during one half and the other on the other half...
Mike Beebe: (Laughing) ...That would be pretty intense I would think.
