A Des Moines Register poll puts Rudy on top of potential Republican presidential candidates.

Giuliani, who has visited Iowa once since 2004, supports abortion rights, while 70 percent of the poll’s respondents identified themselves as “pro-life,” a term associated with opposition to abortion rights, compared to 30 percent who called themselves “pro-choice,” shorthand for supporting abortion rights.

Roughly 29 percent of the 400 surveyed by the Davenport-based firm said they were undecided about whom they would support.

Arizona Sen. John McCain was the choice of 17.3 percent. He has visited Iowa twice as he considers a second presidential bid.

The poll shows single-digit support for the remainder of the large field of prospective GOP candidates, all who have made multiple visits to Iowa this year.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee received 6.5 percent,
followed by Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 4.5 percent, Virginia Sen. George Allen with 3.5 percent, New York Gov. George Pataki with 3.3 percent and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee tied with Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback with 2.5 percent.
