Can Mike Beebe really afford to discount liberal voters by pandering to the extreme right with his positions on everything from gay foster parents to teaching religion in science classes? In Arkansas, generaly, you might think so. But Brummett ponders whether 2006 might be different, with an independent and possibly a Green Party candidate out there for disaffected Democrats to turn to.
Beebe simply does not enjoy Pryor’s full luxury to take liberals wholly for granted.
Beebe could turn out to be Al Gore; Hutchinson George Bush; and Bryan/Lendall Ralph Nader. Phillips County could be Florida. Charlie Daniels could be Katherine Harris.
The real attraction in the column is Brum’s proposal for how Beebe should have answered the “intelligent design” question. Check it out.
