A Qunnipiac University poll released today shows independent Senate candidate Joe Lieberman far outpacing his rivals among Connecticut Republicans.
Lieberman has the support of 75 percent of likely Republican voters in the race. The actual Republican nominee only gets 10 percent of the likely Republican voters.
"Sen. Lieberman's support among Republicans is nothing short of amazing. It more than offsets what he has lost among Democrats. As long as Lieberman maintains this kind of support among Republicans, while holding onto a significant number of Democratic votes, the veteran Senator will be hard to beat," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D.
This raises a serious question for U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, who is publicly supporting Lieberman and even channeling his own campaign money to Lieberman.
What if Lieberman wins the election and fulfills a debt of gratitude to Republican voters by alligning with the Republican caucus?
Control of the Senate could hinge on that decision.
