Mike Beebe and Asa Hutchinson yesterday disagreed over state capital gains taxes in their appearances at the Arkansas Bankers Association meeting in Rogers.
Hutchinson said he wants to cut the tax, while Beebe would defer to federal policy.
Both men also made interesting statements on other issues. For instance, Beebe is suddenly talking like an environmentalist.
Beebe also said [alternative] fuels were important to the environment.
"Those hurricanes didn't just happen," he said of last year's storms, including Hurricane Katrina. "They happened because the water was warmer because of hydrocarbons."
And Hutchinson might be softening on illegal immigration.
Hutchinson said he also favors measures to "enhance their ability to come here legally," such as President Bush's temporary worker program.
