She disclaims interest now, but we've heard from others that 9/11 widow Deena Burnett of LR is positioning for a future political career in Arkansas. Republican. (What would Ann Coulter say about capitalizing on the death of a spouse in 9/11? Would she be subject to questions?)Burnett is featured in Minneapolis paper today on account of her book about the death of her husband, a Minnesota native. The book was ghosted by a Minnesota writer. From the Strib article:
Dedicating the book to Tom's memory, she wrote: "I would rather have been married to him for a few short years than spend a lifetime with a lesser man."
But she also said he would have wanted her to remarry so their daughters could have two parents. Last month, she married Little Rock businessman Rodney Bailey.
Burnett, who spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention and campaigned for Bush's reelection, said she has received "intriguing" approaches about running for the U.S. House or for Arkansas lieutenant governor. That option, she said, "perhaps will come to fruition when the girls are grown."
