Anglican activities

First Episcopalians elected a gay bishop. This year, a woman to lead the denomination. An Arkie angle? You bet. Bishop John M. Allin (an Arkansan and brother of Richard Allin, the venerated Our Town columnist) led the church when it first ordained women and changed the Book of Common Prayer, issues that linger as controversies in the church today. The state's largest news gathering organization, the D-G, is led in both the publisher's office and the executive editor's office, by Episcopalians, the latter very old school in church matters. They mark the sparrow's fall in Episcopal news. Thus a reporter on the scene for this momentous event, which should be covered Monday.

(Hmm. You think doctrinal differences could have played a role in Griffin Smith's uncermonious axing of Richard Allin to make room for Weak Tea?)
