Derek "Doke" Allmon, 42, was sentenced to life in prison today, plus five more years for good measure, by federal Judge Bill Wilson. Life means life in the federal system.
Allmon was convicted in April of a variety of pot, cocaine and heroin charges, as well as attempting to have a couple of witnesses killed. U.S. Attorne Bud Cummins said Allmon was leader of a drug network that operated in four states, produced huge sums of money and used violence to protect its turf. (Ever watch The Wire?)
The investigation that nabbed Allmon has resulted in 18 convictions, Cummins said.
