What would the political season be without some intrigue from the Delta? It had been reported that Rep. Arnell Willis of West Helena had narrowly survived a runoff with Jack Crumbly, the Earle school superintendent, to win nomination to a state Senate seat by a 28-vote margin.
But hold on.
A story in the Forrest City Times-Herald yesterday afternoon reported problems in the count in Forrest City. Was it human error that kept 100 votes out of Crumbly's column? Or something more nefarious, like suspicious "found" ballots? We can't say, but the St. Francis County count, not yet ceritified, would put Crumbly in the lead. If you can wait until 2 p.m., you can refresh the Forrest City paper's website for its report today on Willis' severe unhappiness and his likely lawsuit.
