Score another victory  for the Hot Springs visitors appparatus. The Arkansas Activities Association has decided to move the state high school basketball tournament from Alltel Arena to the Summit Arena in Hot Springs for three years beginning in 2007. We’re trying to run down the details that made the Spa the overwhelming choice in the AAA booard vote.

Jonesboro and Pine Bluff were also in the hunt. We hear Hot Springs offered the AAA the total gate, where the other cities were offering flat payments of around $100,000 and, in some cases, a small percentage of the gate. The Summit has a much smaller capacity than Alltel, though likely sufficient for all but perhaps a high-profile big-school final.
