NY Times tomorrow appears to be leading with the U.S. Supreme Court decsion to take cases that could limit the extent to which race may be used to determine public school assignments. It's all speculative at this point, of course.
It's worth noting that, contrary to popular misperception, LR school assignments are generally neighborhood based. There's no longer cross-town busing to achieve racial balance. There are some racial limits on enrollment numbers in magnet schools, however, and this sort of racial factoring appears to be an issue in one of the cases the Supreme Court has accepted, from Seattle.
