The Morning News interviews James Johnston, the father-in-law of the man killed in a road rage episode in NW Ark. This is the case in which men with Hispanic surnames have been arrested. It's a remarkable interview. Excerpt:
"My daughter was going along happily married until the Lowell police showed up at her door on Saturday," said James Johnston, Twyla's father. "But we are people of radical faith. The Lord takes impossible situations and brings goodness out of them."
.... "I believe it's OK to be mad at God -- but trust him," Johnston said Tuesday from his daughter's home. "I know beyond a doubt that -- if it had been God's desire -- traffic flow patterns could have changed, lights could have changed and Daniel wouldn't have been next to that car."
Johnston said the family is concerned that, because the defendants appear to be Hispanic, the community will use the shooting as a reason to resent the many Spanish-speaking people in the area.
"This has nothing to do with the Spanish-speaking population," Johnston said. "There are two types of people in the world: sinners and those who know God. I don't want Northwest Arkansas to blame the Spanish speakers."
