Hispanic birth rate jumps in Arkansas

Arkansas is among the four states with the fastest growing Hispanic population from 2000-03, according to report released this week by the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics.

All four states (Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee) are in the South, and Arkansas is also among a group of Southern states that lead the nation in increases in the number of total live births among Hispanic mothers.

Arkansas's Hispanic birth increase was measured at 40 percent, as compared to 80 percent for Kentucky, 62 percent for South Carolina and 53 percent for both Alabama and Tennessee.
