Do as we say, not as we do

National Public Radio's morning report about Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to the White House yesterday included President Bush's remarks urging more freedom in China.

''I'll continue to discuss with President Hu the importance of respecting human rights and freedoms of the Chinese people," Bush said in the NPR clip from the South Lawn ceremony. ''China has become successful because the Chinese people experience the freedom to buy and to sell and to produce, and China can grow even more successful by allowing the Chinese people the freedom to assemble, to speak freely, and to worship."

But then, later in the report, there was a reference to the woman who briefly interrupted the ceremony to scream her protest to the prosecution of Falun Gong. The reporter said that in addition to the standard disorderly conduct charge, the Secret Service is considering adding additional, more serious federal charges of intimidating or disrupting a foreign official.

You do not question the Maximum Leader! (Or interrupt his stage-managed media events!)
