Pizza and beer and an outdoor patio across the street from a 600-bed college dorm? Ought to work, you think?
That’s the situation for the new Patio Pizza and Beer Garden, which real estate man Jerry Meyer has opened by connecting two Craftsman-style houses at 3307 Fair Park amid a stand of large oaks and pines.
He’s serving thin-crust “gourmet” pizza, calzones, sandwiches, soup, salad and daily lunch specials from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday (plus five beers on tap and 10 in the bottle).
Entertainment is part of the program, too. Richie Johnson will play acoustic guitar every Wednesday night and Thursday night will be an open mic night for acoustic players. There will be special musical events on Friday and Saturday, including Saturday afternoon when the weather warms and the 1,500-square-foot patio comes into its own. The new place is immediately south of the old Press Box tavern.
Last weekend, via e-mail, longtime Little Rock chef Dennis Seyer announced that he and his family are closing Gypsy’s, effective Jan. 31. That’ll mark the end of more than two decades of fine French cooking from Seyer and family, whose previous endeavors included Le Casse Croute and Alouette’s.
Seyer reports that a new owner will open in April with a different concept. We’ll keep you posted.
