Batten down the hatches 4th District of Arkansas the next time a tornado, flood, ice storm or other calamity requires a call to the federal government for help.

New Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton of Washington, D.C., (who maintains a rental address in Yell County) identified where he's coming from on sending help to mooching storm victims.

He was one of 67 Republicans who voted against the Hurricane Sandy relief bill, belatedly passed today by the U.S. House after a tsunami of criticism of Republicans for dragging their feet on the measure. The vote was 354-67 for $9.7 billion for the flood insurance program. Cotton was in with the likes of crazy Louie Gohmert and my frat bro., Joe "You Lie" Wilson.

Even Tiny Tim Griffin, the Republican from Sardis/DeTonti, voted for this particular spending bill, along with Messrs. Womack and Crawford.

PS — A Republican congressman from Biloxi, which got heaps of hurricane relief money, was also part of the Cotton anti-relief posse. A Democrat represented Biloxi in its time of need, fortunately for Biloxi, I guess.

UPDATE: Cotton's office has issued a statement:

“I pledged throughout my campaign to confront America's debt crisis and today I upheld that pledge by voting against legislation that would have added another $10 billion to our staggering national debt because it did not offset that funding for the national flood-insurance program with equal spending cuts.” Rep Tom Cotton AR4

I look forward to that sentiment applying in Arkansas disaster cleanup requests.
