Former FEMA Director James Lee Witt, headed to announcement as a Democratic candidate for Congress from the 4th District, got this warm report on Facebook tonight from a Democratic meeting in Clark County:

James Lee Witt spoke at our Clark County Democrats meeting tonight, and he's the real deal. He addressed the concerns that many have about his support last year for Tom Cotton [the Republican's family are old friends — Democrats once themselves — from Yell County] and his dedication to the Democratic Party and its goals. He will make a fantastic Congressmen and will represent Arkansas very well. We're incredibly lucky to have him for the 4th District. Get ready, Tea Party of Arkansas, you've just met your match!

Incumbent Cotton is running for Senate. A Democrat, Janis Percefull, and two Republicans, Rep. Bruce Westerman and Tommy Moll, have already announced.

UPDATE: Percefull sent a letter to editors around the state last night. It follows:

As many of my supporters in the 4th Congressional District already know, I have traveled over 1,800 miles, visited 7 county fairs, the Quilt and Gem festival in Montgomery County, as well as many other stops along the way, through 19 counties. Everywhere I’ve gone, people happily engage with me, and I am learning a lot from the people I talk to about the counties I visit. People generally want to know the answer to one question—what am I going to do when I get to Congress. I am gratified by the way they ask what I plan to do in Washington, because there is no sarcasm to their question—they earnestly want to know.

And I thought your readers might want to know as well. By January 2015 if the majority of people in the 4th District get out and vote I will be on my way to Congress, and I will be ready to champion legislation that will give people in the 4th Congressional District affordable education—a livable sustainable wage and /or opportunities to own their own business.

Also, by January 2015 I will be ready to champion any legislation that will rein in corporate adulterators. Those who adulterate the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and the land we live on. And I will be ready to champion the eradication of a system that allows some individuals to pilfer the public coffers while allowing others to go hungry.

And finally, in January 2015 when I go to Congress, the people of the 4th Congressional district will know that I will carry with me the voice of many, and not the voice of the privileged few.

On the ground in the 4th Congressional District and digging in.

Janis K. Percefull
Democratic Candidate for the 4th Congressional District
